FAQs

What's in the name?
Okay, so when I first created this blog (a million years ago), I somehow came across the word "retroworter," through the interwebs. I read in multiple places that it was the German word for palindrome, you know, words like "Hannah," where you can spell them the same way forwards and backwards? I thought it was perfect because I love all things German and the word's meaning was perfect because this blog was here to be about me, forwards and backwards, but.. after searching through lots of dictionaries, I'm not sure if retroworter is an actual word. Ha, that's what you get for believing in the internet, Kristina! But, it's still a cool word, and who says words have to have actual meanings? I make my own meanings! So there you have it, Kristina in Retroworter, means me.. forwards and backwards.

ps. retroworter is a palindrome itself, boom.

What type of camera do you use, and how do you take all of your outfit photo posts?
I actually started out with just my iPhone 4, which is almost three years old now and completely falling apart, but I managed to make it work for a couple of months. I downloaded some free apps and even bought a few to help me make my pictures the best they could possibly be for just being iPhone photos. Here's a list of some of the apps I used if you're interested: TimerCam (for taking photos), Afterlight (not free, but the filters are fab), and Snapseed (free and edits like a boss). Also, I bought a small tripod for outfit photo taking, you can find it here.

But, after a few months of not having a real camera because my Nikon D3000 went kaput, my awesome parents bought me a Canon T3, which I use for the majority of my posts now, with the occasional iPhone photo here and there. I have your typical Canon EFS 18-55mm lens that came with my camera, but I also have access to a Canon EF 50mm f/1.4, which I absolutely love using and is used for the majority of my outfit posts, and a Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L, which is really fun to use as well. I use a tripod and a remote to take all of my outfit photo posts, mainly because I know Curtis would not agree to taking them for me..ha.

Why did you start blogging?
There are a lot of reasons, but the main one would probably be because I've been following blogs for almost four years now, and I finally just decided to take the plunge and start my own. If you've been through my archives, you'll know that I originally started this whole thing out as a craft blog, but that quickly failed. So, a year and a half later (and some serious Houdini magic trying to figure out my email/password combo), I started up my very own personal style blog, with a bit of my real life thrown in for good measure. I adore writing in a more informal setting, and this blog is an amazing creative outlet for me. Not to mention, I love getting to meet and know lovely people with the same interests as me!

What's the height difference between you and your husband
I'm 5'4" and he's 6'5". His hips go up to my ribs, it's pretty crazy.

How old are your beagles, and when did you get them?
Both Skywalker and Muggles are about four years old, but that's an honest guestimation because we adopted both of them from the Houston Beagle and Hound Rescue. Curtis adopted Skywalker first, in August of 2010, he was 9 months old when we got him and he had just gotten over Parvo (get your puppy shots people!) and still pretty rough looking, but we loved him and he was the cutest beagle baby ever! I adopted Muggles in May of 2011, right after my first year of college. The process was a little crazy because HBHR wasn't too sure about a 19 year old adopting a dog, but they saw how much we loved Skywalker and they were convinced it was a perfect fit. We went down to Houston to meet Muggles with Sky, and to see if they were compatible. It was perfect, they played together the entire time we were there, and Muggles (who's more of a people dog anyway) wanted to be loved by both me and Curtis the moment we walked in. I love my beagle babies, and I wouldn't change my mind for a second about owning them.

What's your Myers-Briggs Type Indicator?
I'm INFJ. Apparently that's pretty rare.. awkward.

You mentioned school above, what university are you attending, and what are your plans for afterwards?
I'm currently a senior at Texas A&M University, I love it. Some would say it's a bit of a "cult," but that's because they don't love their school as much as we do. Haha, just kidding! You'll hear me mention my school and my passion for it, along with my obsession passion for Aggie football a lot here. It's in a smaller city about an hour and fifteen minutes northwest of Houston. I'm currently a Management major, but I really have no idea what I want to do after I'm done. I'll probably go to graduate school after I graduate in May of 2014, if I don't find an amazing job (or something that at least pays the bills) before then. It's stressful, but I know I'll find my perfect place.

Where are your favorite places to shop?
I love thrifting more than anything, that rush it gives you when you find something that you've been looking for  and it's only $4, and you're just standing there hugging it like a weirdo. Yeah, I love it. But, I also love Target, Gap, Forever 21, Dillard's, JC Penney, Plato's Closet (does that count as thrifting?), and other stores that are way out of my budget at the moment (insert thrifting). I also have a passion for all things vintage, and am hoping to incorporate it more into my clothing style in the future.

If you have anymore questions, feel free to ask!
