Blogtember: Three Months of My Life

Alright, I've discovered Jenni's Blogtember prompt.. she's the same lovely lady that did Blog Every Day in May challenge, and since I couldn't do that one due to finals, getting married, and being away on a honeymoon (whew, May was crazy), I was super excited to see that she was doing another! Now, I've already missed the first day.. I wanted to do it, but I don't have any really awesome family photos with me here in College Station, so I didn't know how to organize it all.

But, here's day two: If you could take three months off from your current life and do anything in the world, what would you do?

That's an automatic no-brainer for me. Travel around Europe. It'll be my answer 'til the day I die folks. I'd have to spend at least a month in Great Britain/Ireland, driving around Scotland, Wales, and England in a little car with Curtis, seeing castles and hill sides, oceans and small seaside towns, exploring London and Edinburgh, and eventually venturing over to Dublin and the Irish country-side... SIGN ME UP! Although, I'd really like to take the beagles along for all of this, I'm so sad when I'm away from them. Is it ridiculous to be sad when you're away from your dogs? ha.

After seeing Great Britain/Ireland and living my dream of completely soaking in all that the British and Irish have to offer, we'd make our way across the English Channel and explore the sights of Europe. The top country on my list is definitely Germany, but I also want to see Italy, France, Spain, Austria, The Netherlands, and Greece.. or any country I can get to honestly. I'll just let the pictures do the talkin'.

Our Honeymoon, Part IV: Cozumel

For our last stop of the cruise, we visited the island of Cozumel, Mexico. Another thing I learned while on this cruise is that Cozumel is an island, and it's not connected to mainland Mexico. I suppose I should have known that.. having taken some Spanish and all. Fun fact: my favorite part of Spanish class was learning about the different cultures of the Spanish speaking countries. I still to this day wish I could visit other parts of Mexico as well, but..I don't think that's very wise at the moment. After being in Jamaica and Grand Cayman, I kind of felt at home in Cozumel. The temperatures were similar to Texas, and the landscape had many of the same trees. (I know what you were thinking, it was because of all the Mexicans, ha! Wrong.. okay, semi-right, I suppose.)

After we got off the ship, Curtis and I found our tour guide for the day, Gabriel, and waited for the rest of the people to get off the boat as well, which meant a little picture time for me. Soon, we were on our way to the north side of the island to visit the ancient Mayan ruins that are actually located on the island of Cozumel, San Gervasio.



Once we were at the location of the ruins, Gabriel spoke to us all about the history of these ruins, and what they meant to the ancient Mayan civilization. I found it pretty ironic that San Gervasio and Cozumel was where the wealthier Mayans sent their children to be married, and Cozumel is also known as the island of the moon goddess, who happens to grant fertility. (No worries, no fertility was to be had on this trip for Curtis and I! haha). I'm a huge history buff, so I was soaking it all in and was so happy have finally gotten to see some of the Mayan ruins in person. Maybe one day Curt and I will get to go see Chichen Itza or Tulum.


In the picture above, of the passageway, that was the road that the Mayans took to enter the island of Cozumel. They walked hundreds of miles on roads similar to that one, which are made of limestone. Pretty ingenious because limestone, unlike the concrete we have today, doesn't ever get hot. Their culture was amazingly brilliant in so many different ways!

After we were done touring San Gervasio, we took the bus to a beach on the other side of the island. Our tour guide and bus driver thought it'd be fun to take the scenic route through Cozumel, so that was lots of fun. They have an entire side of their island that is protected from development for the sea wildlife. It's pretty amazing how much all of the people of Cozumel we came upon truly loved their home.


After some time at the beach, it was time to head back to the boat. I was actually pretty sad to leave Cozumel, I had really enjoyed my time there. But hopefully one day Curtis and I can go back and stay on the island. Once we got back to the ship, Curtis and I decided to sit up on the deck and watch the departure (since we hadn't any other time). I read for a little bit, and then decided to sit next to the railings and watch the water go by, good thing I did too, I got to see dolphins! I was freaking out, and sooo wished I had a camera with me, but alas, I didn't!

Anyway, Curtis and I had one amazing honeymoon, and I'm glad to say, I've got a pretty good traveling partner by my side. Hopefully there will be lots more adventures in our future :)

Our Honeymoon, Part III: Grand Cayman

Our next port of call was Grand Cayman, the largest island of the Cayman Islands. I actually didn't even realize that the Cayman Islands weren't just called Grand Cayman until I was looking through the brochures on the ship! But, it's a gorgeous, gorgeous island! Curtis and I had signed up to go see and swim with sea turtles, and boy, I was excited. You see, turtles are the only reptile I don't refuse to absolutely despise. Okay, maybe I've started to like iguanas.. only because they were EVERYWHERE, and they didn't look like they were going to eat me.. or kill me. Anyway, we made our way to the Cayman Turtle Farm once we got on the island, and learned all about the sea turtles that inhabit the waters of the Caribbean.

 

  After walking around and seeing some of the larger turtles, we got to visit the little turtle ponds that were home to the younger turtles and hold them! Those flippers are actually ridiculously strong for such a tiny little thing. Then, it was on to the large reservoir where we got to get our snorkel on with the turtles. I thought we'd get to swim with the larger turtles at first, but seeing as those can weigh up to 800 lbs, that didn't happen. But, we did get to swim with the 2-4 year old turtles, still really cool and lots of fun!


After swimming for quite some time, we grabbed some lunch at the little restaurant located in the turtle farm. We had traditional Cayman food, and it was quite scrumptious! Then we went off exploring the rest of the farm, and made our way back around everything to get a better look at it all. Oh, we went back to the little turtles so Curtis could hold one since he didn't get to before. I'm pretty proud to say I caught the turtle for him! Tehe.

  Pretty soon, it was time to leave, but of course.. I wanted to venture off to look out in the ocean before we had to get on the bus back to the ship, so I ran across the road and took a peek. Curtis soon followed because there was a creepy man standing off to the side.. yeah, he wanted us to give him a ride to the main city on Grand Cayman, like we had a car or something. It was really awkward, but.. I got my pictures, haha.     I loved our time in Grand Cayman, and I'd definitely go back again. Maybe one day we can swim in the actual ocean with turtles! Our next and final stop for our honeymoon was Cozumel, Mexico, I'll have that up soon. Hope everyone's having a great day :)
