A Girl Named Kristina

Okay, I know.. I’m like two days late, but oh well. I really wanted to do this first one at least, after reading all of y’all’s amazing stories of your lives. I duno, I just really love hearing about it, so here’s my bit about me in 250 word (probably will end up being more, I’m long winded). Oh, and I'm putting a million pictures on here because I like old pictures, tehe.

First day of kindergarten, I think. Sorry, I have no little baby photos of me on the computer I'm using right now.
I was born in Waco, Texas, to a mother I probably won’t ever know, on misty day in late January. I was left on the doorstep of a Baylor law student’s apartment in a basket with a blanket and a note. I didn’t have a name, so the nurses at the hospital named me Misty Grace. A few weeks later, my parents adopted me and changed my name to Kristina Nicole (thank goodness). I grew up a happy child, and even though some periods in my life weren’t exactly perfect by any means, I made it through. I met my best friends I have now when I was in elementary school, and they’ve been there for me ever since. I played sports my entire life, but volleyball was my true passion and I miss it every single day.  I was one of those kids who was involved in literally everything you could be involved in during high school.. sports, band, student council, volunteer this and that, I even had an extremely short stent in cheerleading, and I don’t think I ever made a B – not the case now, I can assure you, haha.

Oh marching band, how I do not miss thee.
I met a tall boy named Curtis when I was in the ninth grade, we fell in love a short while later, had some rough patches when he left for college two years before me, but then everything was pretty much perfect once I got to Texas A&M in the fall of 2010. Curt and I adopted our two beagles within a year of each other, and we were really happy. Curtis was diagnosed with Degenerative Disc Disease in 2011, and pretty much laid on the ground for a year. It was rough, but he knew he wanted to marry me when I didn’t waiver from his side for a moment. So, we got engaged on July 27, 2012, and we’re getting married in 15 days.

On May 18th, I begin a brand new chapter of my life, and I cannot wait.

PS. I'm taking a slight break until finals are over, then I'll be back for regular posting.. and then I'll leave again for the wedding and honeymoon. But yeah, just giving y'all a heads-up.

  1. why am i crying?! you are so, so amazing and beautiful and strong and brave and resilient and smart and funny and you harbor so much of the world's goodness. thank you so much for sharing your life story, including the good and the bad. your family, friendships and your relationship with curt are all so incredible. i don't know hardly anyone who still has the same friends as they did in elementary--much less the same partner as in high school. and you're probably the only person i know who was left on a doorstep. i want to write a book about you because you're so awesome. so much love for you, kristina.

ps. i'm probably going to call you misty grace from now on.
    pps. jaykay!

  2. Wow, your story is amazing. At first when I read the basket on a doorstep part, I thought you were kind of joking and were going to turn it in to a Harry Potter thing "and then I found out I was a wizard..." Anyway, what an amazing true life story! I am so happy for you and Curtis! Your wedding is sooooo close!

I'm definitely going to say, "and then I found I was a wizard!!" the next time I tell someone this story, it's too funny to pass up. Thank you for making my day, Ashley ;)

  8. Okay, I could go on and on and on about how much I loved reading this and hearing you story, but it would take me more than 250 words to say what I want to say (and it would be weird to write a 250 word reaction to a 250 word post, right??). Reading this was incredible, and it makes me love you THAT MUCH MORE (is it even possible??). You are so beautiful and strong, and I find you insanely inspirational. I know you have said before that your'e adopted and learning that story makes me feel so excited to adopt and provide a child with all the love in the world, like your parents did for you. Thank you for sharing, you courageous, amazing woman. XOXO

    1. I just took a break from being completely stressed out from studying, and your comment made me feel SO much better Brynn. Thank you for your sweet, sweet words.. It used to be really hard for me to tell people that I was adopted, but now, it feels like I'm showing something good in the world. I have no idea if that makes sense, but yeah..

      THANK YOU! :D

  14. Kristina!
I read this a few days ago early one morning in bed (I have this bad habit of reaching for my phone, first thing in the AM). I haven't had time to blog or comment in days, but your story has stuck with me since then. You are SO amazing, strong, brave, kind! The list continues. I've said it before -- but it's worth saying again: so so so so glad we found each other on the big wide internet! And a thousand congrats to you and Curtis!
